AI for teens and students, ages 13 to 19

Learn to build with AI while you are still at school

Most teenagers use AI to finish homework faster. A few learn to use it to build things: apps, automations, websites, research projects and small businesses. This course turns your teen into one of the few, with a portfolio to prove it.

Beyond "using ChatGPT"

Using an AI chat assistant is now an everyday skill, like using a search engine. It is not what makes a student stand out. What stands out is a student who can explain how language models work, write prompts that produce reliable results, connect AI to other tools, and ship a working project that real people use.

This course is built for teenagers who want that edge, whether they plan to study computer science, medicine, business or art. AI will be part of all of those fields, and students who understand it early will learn faster at university and be more useful in internships.

How the course works

Sessions are one-to-one with a tutor who builds with AI professionally. Each week has a short concept, a practical lab on premium tools from our AI Lab, and a project milestone. Between sessions, students work on their project and send questions; the tutor reviews progress and adjusts the plan.

We also make AI work for school, honestly: building personal flashcard generators from class notes, using AI to quiz yourself on past-paper topics, and learning when using AI would break the rules of coursework.

Course roadmap

  1. How language models work

Tokens, training, why AI hallucinates, and what that means for how you use it.

  2. Prompt engineering

Roles, context, examples, step-by-step reasoning and output formats, tested on real tasks.

  3. AI for learning

Building a personal study assistant that quizzes you, explains mistakes and plans revision.

  4. Python for AI

Variables, loops, functions and APIs, just enough Python to call AI models from code.

  5. Build an AI chatbot

A chatbot with its own knowledge base, deployed to a web page.

  6. No-code automation

Connecting forms, spreadsheets, email and AI into workflows that save time.

  7. Image, audio and video AI

Generative media tools, copyright basics and honest disclosure.

  8. Capstone project

A real project for a real user: a school club, family business or community group.

Example student projects

  • Revision bot for O-Level Chemistry

A chatbot trained on the student's own notes that quizzes them and explains errors.

  • Shop order tracker

A family shop's orders moved from a notebook into a form, sheet and automatic WhatsApp reminder.

  • School society website

A website with an AI-powered FAQ for a school's science or debate society.

  • University application helper

A tool that organises deadlines and requirements for applications abroad.

Will this help with university applications?

Yes, if the projects are real. Admissions teams in the UK, US and elsewhere increasingly look for evidence of initiative beyond grades. A short write-up of a project you built, who used it and what you learned is far more convincing than "I am interested in technology." Students applying for computer science, engineering, business or data courses benefit most, but we have seen strong medicine and law applicants use AI projects too.

Who is this course for?

  • Students aged 13 to 19 who are curious about technology, whatever subjects they take.
  • Students who use AI a lot and want to use it properly, not just for shortcuts.
  • Students considering computer science, AI, engineering or business at university.
  • Students who want to start freelancing or a small online business early.

Questions about AI for teens

My teen has exams this year. Is this a distraction?

We plan around exams. Many students take one session a week during exam season and two in holidays. Projects can also support school subjects, such as study bots for exam revision.

Do they need to be good at maths?

No. Basic school maths is enough. Machine learning maths comes later, in our machine learning course, for students who want it.

Which tools will they use?

Premium AI assistants, AI coding assistants, no-code automation and app builders from our AI Lab, plus Python. All tools used in class are included in the fee.

Do they get a certificate?

Yes, a certificate of completion, plus the more valuable thing: a portfolio of projects with write-ups they can show universities and employers.
