See a psychiatrist privately, from home

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor specialising in mental health. If you have been struggling for weeks or months with mood, anxiety, sleep, concentration or thoughts that worry you, a psychiatric assessment can clarify what is going on and what will help.

If you are in crisis right now

Our classes and consultations are not an emergency service. If you or someone you know is in immediate danger or thinking about suicide, call your local emergency number now. In Pakistan you can call Rescue 1122 or the Umang mental health helpline: 0311 7786264 (24/7). In the UK call 999 or Samaritans on 116 123; in the US call or text 988; in the UAE call 999.

When to see a psychiatrist

Consider a psychiatric consultation if you notice any of these for more than two weeks, or if they are getting in the way of daily life:

  • Persistent low mood, hopelessness or loss of interest in things you used to enjoy.
  • Constant worry, panic attacks, or avoiding situations because of fear.
  • Sleep that is badly disrupted, too little or too much.
  • Trouble concentrating that affects studies or work, including possible ADHD.
  • Intrusive thoughts or repeated rituals you feel unable to stop.
  • Mood swings, periods of unusually high energy, or feeling detached from reality.
  • Using alcohol, substances or other behaviours to cope.

What happens in a consultation

Your first consultation usually lasts 45 to 60 minutes. The psychiatrist asks about your current difficulties, history, health, family background and daily life, and listens carefully. They then explain their understanding of the problem in plain language and discuss options, which may include talking therapy, lifestyle and sleep changes, and, where appropriate and permitted by local regulations, medication. You are always part of the decision.

Follow-up appointments review progress, side effects and next steps. Where a physical examination, blood tests or in-person care is needed, the psychiatrist will tell you and help you arrange it locally.

Medication: honest answers

Many people worry that seeing a psychiatrist means being "put on tablets". It does not. Medication is one option among several, used when the benefits outweigh the risks. When it is recommended, your psychiatrist explains what it is for, how long it may take to work, possible side effects and how it will be reviewed. Never stop or change prescribed medication without speaking to your doctor.

Psychiatry questions

Are your psychiatrists qualified?

Our psychiatrists are qualified medical doctors with specialist psychiatric training, registered with the relevant medical council where they practise. You can ask to see a specialist's credentials before your appointment.

Can a psychiatrist prescribe online?

In many cases, yes, within the rules of the country where you are located. Some medicines and situations require in-person assessment. Your psychiatrist will explain what applies to you.

Will anyone else find out?

No. Consultations are confidential. We do not inform schools, employers or family members without your consent, except where there is a serious risk to someone's safety.

I live outside Pakistan. Can I still book?

Yes, for consultations and support. Prescribing across borders is restricted, so for medication we may coordinate with a doctor in your country.
